The Top 6 Hair Care Tips From The Experts!

August 26th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I ran across these “hair care tips from the experts” while looking through some health articles:

  1. Repair Summer Damage - “To replenish damaged, dried out hair, a good deep conditioning treatment during your next salon visit should do the trick.  For longer lasting shine, consider a Keratin Treatment that will keep locks frizz free for several months.”
  2. Fall Hair Trends - “This fall, hair color will be highly influenced by nature, lots of warm tones including reds, coppers, and very rich browns.  Blondes will be warmer & richer in tones as well.  Naturally air dried hair is going to be very big  throughout the fall & winter as well.  Whether you have curls or waves, wear them.  Don’t blow your hair out straight all time time.”
  3. Styling Tips- “After your hair is air dried, you can go in with hot rollers, a flat iron, or a curling iron to dress it up a bit around the face.  Set you hair in a high bun at night before bed with some light mousse and take out in the morning for a natural wave.”
  4. Go From “Gym Hair” to “Glamorous Hair” - “It is not healthy to wash your hair every single day and this can be a problem for workout warriors.  An easy way to go from gym hair to glam hair without having to wash and blow dry your hair is to use dry shampoo or baby powder to absorb the sweat and grease.”
  5. Blot Your Hair Dry - “The thing that damages the hair the most is rubbing it vigorously with a towel.  Instead, you should blot the excess water out of your hair rather than rubbing.  Then comb it out and allow your hair to air dry if you can.  Avoid overusing blow dryers and other heated styling tools whenever possible.”
  6. Use Natural Hair Care Products- “Alcohol and other chemicals can damage your hair.  Choose natural organic shampoos and conditioners that contain nourishing botancial ingredients.

Do You Know How To Protect The Health and Beauty of Your Hair?

August 25th, 2008

According to “New Beauty” magazine, the key to protecting the health and beauty of your hair is an equally healthy scalp.  When both the scalp and hair follicles are properly nourished and cared for, you will see healthy hair growth that results in shiny, stronger hair.

Here are a couple myths we would like to dispel:

Myth: Dry Scalp and Dandruff are the Same.
Truth: While dandruff and dry scalp are often thought to be the same thing, the truth is they are two completely different, and unrelated, skin conditions.  Dandruff is caused by excessive oil on the scalp that leads to inflammation.  Dry scalp is itchy and dry because it’s dehydrated.  You can treat a dry scalp with a mild shampoo and conditioner to help hydrate it.  You can treat dandruff with prescription-strength treatments like cortisone gels or lotions and shampoos containing selenium sulfide, pyrithione or zinc, or antifungal drugs.  Psoriasis of the scalp is another condition that can be confused with dandruff.  Psoriasis of the scalp produces silver-looking scales that bleed when scratched and can be treated with topical steroids like cortisone.

Myth: Bad Hygiene Leads to Flakes
Truth: Dandruff is caused by an abundance of oil that becomes infected with a yeast called malassezia, not by a lack of washing or poor hygiene.  To keep dandruff at bay, wash with a mild shampoo.  Avoid over-washing your hair since it can dry out your scalp and mask the symptoms of dandruff.

What can help?

  1. Goody makes a brush that is infused with copper-plated bristles (a natural bactericide), which can kill up to 88% of bacteria and fungi living on the scalp.
  2. You can find an excellent shampoo that contains tea tree oil, which helps hair shine while eliminating dry scalp, at http://ihd.myarbonne.com.

How To Undo A Beauty Mishap!

August 23rd, 2008

In case you hadn’t seen it in our Tips and Advice section, I wanted to share this beauty tip with you:

“We’ve all, from time to time, applied too much blush.  Do You Know What To Do?  Sprinkle translucent powder on a makeup sponge and blend over the too bright color. The trick is to blend the color in toward the apple of the cheeks instead of out toward your ears.  If cheeks still look too intense, go over them again with 2 drops of foundation on a makeup wedge.

Act immediately if your mascara clumps since mascara is formulated to dry in seconds.  Wipe all the formula off your mascara wand with a piece of paper napkin or paper towel (not a tissue, which may shed) and wiggle the wand gently from side-to-side from the root to the tips of the lashes.”

This and many more tips, including Celebrity Beauty Secrets” can be found at http://www.hormones-beauty-health.com/tips_advice.htm.

The Single, Best Skin Care Advice For Your Eyes!

August 22nd, 2008

As we age, fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness start to form around your eyes.  As someone who has experienced all these issues, the best skin care advice I can give you is to take care of your eyes before the fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness begins.

As most of us know, in your 30’s is when the collagen starts to deplete and it’s the collagen that keeps your skin smooth and hydrated.  Without it, your skin starts to dry out, sag, and wrinkles form.

I would like to recommend to you NutriMinC RE9 Corrective Eye Creme - it worked for me.  I wish someone had told me about it when I was in my 30’s so the issues wouldn’t have been so extreme.  Do yourself a favor and try it, you’ll see an improvement almost immediately.

NutriMinC RE9 Corrective Eye Creme can be found at http://ihd.myarbonne.com.  Try it and let us know what you think.

They say beauty is only skin deep.  Facial skin care is where it all begins and beauty doesn’t have to fade with age.  Beautiful skin is still available to all ages of women.

Facial skin care is affected as we grow older, our body slows down on the production of collagen which, together with elastin, supports the skin and gives it its youthful natural beauty and tone.

The 10 Most & Least Toxic Fruits and Vegetables!

August 20th, 2008

According to a health article in “Best Life Magazine” in May 2008, an environmental research firm in Washington, D.C. recently tested the pesticide levels of 44 kinds of produce.  They found that certain conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are marinated in a toxic cocktail of pesticides that have been shown to cause everything from dizziness to cancer, as well as headaches, rashes, and liver toxicity.  But, not all fruits and vegetables are affected equally as they don’t all receive the same amount of chemical treatment.  Here are their findings:

10 MOST Toxic Conventionally Grown Fruits and Vegetables
(in descending order of pesticide toxicity level)
Peaches
Apples
Sweet Bell Peppers (11 different pesticides found on a single pepper)
Celery
Nectarines
Strawberries
Cherries
Lettuce
Grapes
Pears

10 LEAST Toxic Conventionally Grown Fruits and Vegetables
(in descending order of pesticide toxicity level)
Cabbage
Bananas
Kiwi
Asparagus
Sweet Peas
Mangoes
Pineapples
Sweet Corn
Avocados
Onions

What can you do — you aren’t going to stop eating fruits and vegetables.  Whether they have the most or least toxicity level, you need to make sure that you clean them really good before eating!

How To Have Beautiful Skin In Your 50’s!

August 16th, 2008

We’ve talked about skin care advice in your 30’s, health and beauty issues in your 40’s, now how to have beautiful skin in your 50’s.

  1. Like the rest of your body, the skin is just not as strong and flexible as it used to be.  The continued loss of elasticity, collagen, fat, and bone results in deeper wrinkles, more obvious sagging of the eyes and cheeks, and drooping at the jowls and neck, however, if you’ve kept your body weight stable, your skin will be tighter.
  2. Your skin’s oil production may drop significantly, resulting in seriously dry skin.
  3. Menopause decreases the skin’s ability to protect itself from the environment, making sunscreen even more important.
  4. Hormonal changes can also lead to the growth of facial hair.

Dry Skin - After menopause your skin is drier than ever and its ability to retain moisture is reduced.  This means that moisturizing is essential.  You also need to change some unhealthy skin habits, i.e. washing with overly hot water, tanning, poor nutrition, and smoking.  Use a moisturizing cleanser with glycerin that hydrates and retinoids to build collagen and exfoliate the skin.

Oily Skin - Your skin will become drier and breakouts rarer.  As a bonus, you will probably have fewer wrinkles than your friends who have dry skin.  Oily skin has more active cells, resulting in  less collagen loss.  Overuse of acne-fighting products may dehydrate or irritate your skin.

Sensitive Skin - Your skin is more susceptible to the environment and potentially irritating substances due to the weaker, drier barrier.  You should start testing all products on your neck and arms before using them on your face as you may not be able to tolerate products that you used 10 years earlier.  Do NOT take long, hot showers using soap, or use too many exfoliating or anti aging skin care products at once.

At the risk of repeating myself, NutriMinC RE9 anti aging skin care products are made to treat your aging skin care problems from age 30 and up and can be found at http://www.ihd.myarbonne.com.

What Health and Beauty Issues Can You Expect in Your 40’s?

August 15th, 2008

Yesterday we talked about skin care advice in your 30’s.  Today we would like to talk about what health and beauty issues you will be facing in your 40’s.  This is when you start thinking, “My face is falling”.

  1. A weakening of collagen and elastin fibers (your skin’s support structure) causes a loss of firmness.  Add to this gravity, a loss of fat, muscle & bone, and you get sagging eyelids, drooping brows, and hollowness under the eyes.
  2. Past sun exposure determines the amount and size of visible brown spots, redness, and broken blood vessels.  Precancerous spots are also more common.
  3. Oil production is way down, making dryness an issue and the thickening of the epidermis (top layer of your skin) makes skin appear dull and pores visibly enlarged.
  4. Expression lines around your eyes, mouth, and forehead are visible.  If you’ve protected your skin from the sun, you’re better off than most.  Lighter skin types are more likely to show more wrinkling than darker types.

Dry Skin - Reduced sebum production (natural waterproofer) combined with a decreased ability to retain water results in dry, thirsty skin.  Without proper hydration, dryness can lead to sensitivity.  Be sure to use anti aging skin care products designed to properlty hydrate your skin and exfoliate regularly to remove that dry upper layer of skin.  Do NOT use bar soap as it can disrupt the skin’s natural pH balance.

Oily Skin - This may sound strange but oily skin can become dehydrated, especially when the temperature drops.  Dehydration refers to reduced moisture levels, which are different than oil levels.  In fact, dehydration can lead to an over-production of oil.  Regular use of anti aging skin care products is essential to keep your pH balance intact. Do NOT pick at clogged pores as it can leave scars.

Sensitive Skin - Your skin can become inflamed, red, irritated, or flaky more easily than ever.  This is because the skin’s barrier becomes drier, weaker, and more vulnerable to outside irritants including the wrong skin care products.  Use a product with sun protection and moisturizer.  Do NOT excessively cleanse your skin as it can do more harm than good.

As we said yesterday, NutriMinC RE9 products can used by all types of skin.  They have a full line of anti aging skin care products and can be found at http://ihd.myarbonne.com
